The Hammond's 100th Birthday18/09/17
Over the last year, historical researcher Caroline Hamilton has been delving into the history books, local archives and interviewing past students to discover as much as possible about our school's rich history. A key date that arose from this research was 13th June 1917 - the first recorded instance of Irene Hammond teaching students to dance in the Grosvenor Hotel ballroom. So, a hundred years on, on Tuesday 13th June 2017, we celebrated in true Hammond tradition with an enormous cake, pictured right. If you'd like to read more about Caroline's discoveries, please visit The Hammond Centenary website.
A giant cake was baked by the Devonshire Bakery based in Frodsham to feed 400+. The cake recipe used 110 eggs, over 6kg of flour. It took over 12 hours to decorate and by the time it was finished, it was so heavy it took four people to carry it!
