Boys' masterclass Day at The Hammond06/02/19
A free masterclass taster day for boys aged 11-19 was recently held at The Hammond. Over 50 boys enjoyed a fantastic day of dance, with the opportunity to experience Commercial/ Street, Contemporary, Jazz, Musical Theatre and Ballet all taught by The Hammond vocational teachers within The school’s superb facilities and studios.
Parents of boys attending on the day said how heartened they were that there were so many boys doing the same thing as their sons. They said that the boys are often bullied or don’t want to tell their friends that they like to dance, so keep it hidden.
The boys who attended came from the North and North West of England, North Wales, Shropshire and from as far afield as Cornwall, Somerset and Italy!
Boys often struggle to overcome outdated prejudices when they first take an interest in dance. At The Hammond, their passion for the art form is recognised and encouraged while they receive an outstanding vocational and academic training at one of the centres of excellence for dance, as recognised by the UK Government. The masterclass day is designed to offer boys a space, together with others, where they can develop their love of dance.
