16 Years+ Music Performance
The Hammond offers talented musicians a stimulating, motivating and educational environment in which to develop skills and knowledge.
Our fully equipped music department includes six practice rooms, a state-of-the-art digital recording studio, digital and acoustic pianos, and an extensive range of instruments. We also have an iMac suite with midi keyboards linked to iMac computers, which run industry-leading software, such as Sibelius and Logic Pro.
Our many choral groups and instrumentalists perform regular concerts at venues such as Chester Town Hall, Eaton Hall, Chester Cathedral and Liverpool Echo Arena.
Our music students grow in confidence and acquire a host of new skills when they are given the opportunity to perform.
Our five choirs enhance the reputation of The Hammond by consistently producing performances of the very highest standard. Students throughout the school are given the opportunity to join our choirs.
- Preparatory School Choir
- Junior Choir (all Year 7 & 8 students)
- Senior Choir (all Year 9, 10 & 11 students)
- Chamber Choir (Years 9, 10 & 11 by audition)
- Hammond Chorale (Seniors)
We are very fortunate to have a group of dedicated and enthusiastic peripatetic teachers who visit the school every week to provide individual instrumental and vocal lessons. At present, these include:
- French horn
Senior students are offered the chance to study BTEC Music Performance, which equates in UCAS points to a full A Level. The course comprises song writing, performing, recording and producing, as well as providing further opportunities to perform regularly in our studio and 420-seat theatre. Music students also regularly perform in school assemblies, at prizes giving ceremonies, musical theatre shows, dance productions and our annual Christmas Carol service in Chester Cathedral. Recent shows have included Les Misérables, Phantom of the Opera, Sweeney Todd, West Side Story, Oliver and Miss Saigon.
Our state-of-the-art recording studio provides great opportunities for students to record show reels and audio presentations for Agents and Casting Directors, as well as providing material and repertoire, which can be uploaded to sites such as Soundcloud and iTunes.
Many of our music students have gone on to continue their studies at Universities and Conservatoires throughout the country, as well as gaining employment in the Performing Arts and Music industries.
