Outreach > The Hammond Youth Theatre
The Hammond Youth Theatre (HYT) provides exciting and challenging drama classes for young people aged 4-18 years. Classes run every Saturday during The Hammond term time and take place in the school’s purpose-built drama studios and productions in our Performing Arts Centre. Classes are divided into three age ranges, ensuring all learners are taught at an appropriate level.
HYT encourages creativity through a variety of drama techniques designed to increase confidence and self-esteem. Students are provided with opportunities to demonstrate their performance skills to outside audiences.
All new students are entitled to a free taster session to ensure the HYT is right for them. Students should wear relaxed comfortable clothing for classes and we strongly recommend they bring a bottle of water. Students in the infant and junior classes are offered a drink and snack during these classes.
Hammond Youth Theatre Infants (4-7 Years)
Our infant classes focus on developing confidence and communication skills through imaginative play and improvisation. These classes are taught in our state-of-the-art music suite, giving children access to musical instruments and multi-media technology to enhance their learning. Infant students will present their work at the end of each term in an informal setting to give parents, guardians and family members the opportunity to enjoy their child’s progress.
£8 per session. Classes are charged per term.
Hammond Youth Theatre Juniors (7-11 Years)
Our junior classes focus on developing confidence, communication and performance skills through dynamic, enjoyable and challenging weekly workshops and rehearsals. Junior classes are taught in our purpose-built drama studio where students can experiment with many theatrical equipment, such as lighting, sound, props and costumes. Junior students perform studio presentations and share work at the end of each term, giving parents, guardians and family members the opportunity to see their child’s progress.
£12 per session. Classes are charged per term.
Hammond Youth Theatre Seniors (11-18 Years)
Our senior class is for young people who are serious about drama and performance. The class focuses on developing a broad and varied range of acting and performance skills. The HYT senior class starts and ends with individual skill-specific workshops, such as mask work, improvisation, practitioner study, stage combat and much more. The middle part of the year is dedicated to the rehearsal and performance of our annual play. Learners rehearse and perform a full play for a public audience in our purpose-built 420-seat theatre.
