MUSICAL THEATRE AT THE HAMMOND

Thoroughly Modern MilliePhotography by Caroline Holden

The Musical Theatre Diploma course offers the student a range of performance opportunities underpinned by applied practical training in the crucial physical and vocal skills.  Students are able to develop all the essential skills required for a career in performance in the theatre and other associated industries and media.  Recognising the importance of Dance in a career in Musical Theatre, a first year in common with the Diploma course in Dance provides training in classical ballet, tap and jazz disciplines, with training also in contemporary Dance.

The course reflects the demands for a highly-skilled "triple threat" performer who is able to combine dance, acting and singing in any performance genre.

The programme of Integrated Professional Studies broadens and deepens students' knowledge and understanding of Musical Theatre, Dance and Performance.  This essential theoretical material supports the practical and technical grounding covered in the Diploma and enables students to develop the ability to work confidently and flexibly as professionals.  They become critical independent thinkers with a wide range of transferrable skills and learn to engage effectively in the study, practice and appreciation of performance.
