Careers Guidance
We aim to help students to make informed choices about their futures, to implement their decisions and to create longer term plans for progression. Years 7 - 11 follow a structured careers education programme delivered by the careers co-ordinator.
The stated objectives are:
- Self-awareness - helping pupils to become aware of themselves, their skills, abilities, interests and values.
- Opportunity awareness - encouraging interest in and awareness of the opportunities available in education, training and employment.
- Decision Making - the development of skills required to make informed, reasoned decisions.
- Transition Learning - The development of skills needed in coping with significant changes in our lives - such as moving from School to Further Education, training or employment.
The sixth form A level tutor oversees UCAS entry.
Connexions Service
Connexions Chester works in partnership with school staff to support and enhance the Careers Education Programme. The role of the school`s personal adviser is to help your son/daughter to make informed decisions through impartial career guidance and information. The service can also help young people find a place in education, training or employment when they leave school. Advice may also be sought on a wide range of issues relating to young adults.
From Year 9 onwards, your son/daughter will be invited to attend group sessions and/or individual interviews. The personal adviser will attend most parents evenings from Year 9 onwards, when he / she will be available to meet parents and discuss, on an individual basis, career related issues.
