The Hammond in Chester is the leading provider for performing arts education in theNorth West.  It is recognised and funded as a centre of excellence by the Department for Education (DfE) under the Music and Dance Scheme (MDS), and is only one of nine residential schools nationally within this scheme. (Additionally, The Hammond receives financial support through the Education Funding Agency's (EFA's) Dance and Drama Award Scheme (DaDA) for some of its post-16 students).

TheHammond caters for pupils in its Preparatory School from the age of 3 -11. The main part of the school takes Senior students from 11 to 19 years, providing Post -16 Vocational Training leading to the National Diplomas in Professional Dance and Musical Theatre. Many graduates work in theWest Endor with professional dance companies. The Sixth Form Drama Course combines a BTEC Diploma Level 3 in Performing Arts (Acting) with the study of two 'A' Levels.

The Preparatory School is located within the school's grounds at Hoole Bank and offers a separate and secure Key Stage 1-2 education. Prep students are also able to take advantage of the extensive dance, music and drama facilities contained within The Hammond Performing Arts Centre, in addition to The Hammond's science and IT facilities.

Hammond Lower School (11-16 years) offers full time educational courses in dance, drama and music, alongside GCSE level academic provision in a broad range of subjects.

In recent years, significant investment has enabled The Hammond to expand and develop into the unique establishment it is today. The Hammond Theatre (seating over 400) in the Performing Arts Centre, The Music Faculty with its recording studio, individual practice rooms and AppleMac computer suite, plus seven state of the art dance studios all offer excellent performance opportunities for our talented students.

The Hammond Youth Theatre offers classes in stage and screen for young people 4-18 years. Workshop classes are held at The Hammond every Saturday during term time.

In addition, The Hammond runs a Dance Associate Scheme for children between the ages of 9 and 15 years. These classes run 9 times a year on a Sunday during term time, with entry by audition.

The school has a strong commitment to Performance Education - both on the stage and in the classroom. Admission to The Hammond is based on both talent and potential, regardless of personal circumstances, with many students relying on financial support from the MDS or DaDA schemes in order to attend the school.

TheHammond offers carefully structured artistic training in Dance, Musical Theatre, Music and Drama, giving its students the best possible education to equip them for a career in the world of the theatre.

Located just outside the city of Chester, Cheshire, only two hours north of London by rail, our facilities are second to none.

The Hammond School Limited is registered in England and Wales, Company Number 00838325, and Registered Charity number 1022427 incorporating The Betty Hassall Foundation.
